PRN Home Health & Hospice has partnered with Sarah Hazelwood, a senior art student at Wamego High School, to design and paint the new hospice memorial mural. The mural will adorn one wall in the new Hospice room at PRN's Wamego office. The mural and the room are meant to provide comfort and peace as well as a place for respite, support and resources to hospice patients, their caregivers and families. The mural will serve as a visual to honor and memorialize loved ones and serve as a way to support hospice care in our community. Families, caregivers, friends or community members may have their loved one's name and a short message engraved on metal leaves which will be adorned to the trees within the mural. Hazelwood was selected for the project because of her interest and artistic vision. While interested in all art mediums, painting and watercolors are her specialty which she will utilize in this project. "For the hospice mural, I wanted to create something attractive and peaceful. I liked the idea of a landscape, so the idea just seemed to come together." says Hazelwood. The landscape concept includes a vibrant array of rolling hills, trees, birds, and a setting sun. Hazelwood plans to use a painting technique that will provide a soft, watercolor type feel. PRN's community outreach coordinator and project leader, Sarah Guy says, "We are excited about embarking on this project with Sarah. She has been professional, creative and great to work with from day one and is already making tremendous progress on the mural. We hope to unveil the completed mural by the first month of the year and look forward to providing a peaceful, comforting environment for our clients and community." PRN Home Health & Hospice has been providing in-home medical services including skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical social work, home health assistance, and hospice to all of Northeast KS for over 15 years. Recently awarded with the national HomeCare Elite Award for the second consecutive year, PRN is one of the top 25% of home health agencies in the nation for excellence in quality of care. Hazelwood, while managing 4 advanced placement courses and 3 independent studies this year, still finds the time to be involved in several co-curricular activities including debate, forensics, school theater, art club, KAYS, and FCCLA, as well as both the NCKL and Highland Community College annual High School art shows. She hopes to pursue some area of art or design in her post-secondary education next year. |
